About Us

The Advantage Education Loan, the Advantage Parent Loan and the Advantage Refinance Loan are owned and managed by the Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corporation (KHESLC).

Both agencies are state-based, not-for-profit, governmental entities. As such, our mission is to expand educational opportunities by providing financial aid and informational resources to enable students and families to attain their higher educational goals.

Being a not-for-profit entity means that the money we make goes back into our loans for the continued service to students and families — not into the pockets of shareholders or executives in the form of dividends or bonuses.

When you borrow an Advantage Education Loan, you can rest assured you are receiving one of the lowest fixed interest rate education loans in the nation. That means over the life of the loan, more money in your pocket from the savings in interest paid and no fees charged.

Advantage Refinance Loans are private loans. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue loan features or benefits or to discontinue loan programs at any time without notice. Rates vary based on the repayment term you've selected, your credit history and other factors. Advantage Refinance Loans are owned and managed by KHESLC, a state-based, non-profit lender. We do not sell or subcontract our loans.

For new Advantage Refinance Loans, a cosigner release may be available after 12 months of on-time regularly scheduled principal and interest payments, or an equivalent lump sum payment. The cosigner release is dependent upon the loan’s disbursement date, borrowers’ current credit and other factors. The borrower needs to request the cosigner release. A credit review will then be performed to ensure the borrower meets certain credit and eligibility requirements.

Advantage Refinance Loans are considered new loans, which provide new benefits and features. As a state-based nonprofit lender, we always strive for what is best for our customers. Additionally, federal debt relief for qualifying loans may be lost when refinancing.
